Sea, Sand, and Sun
Scott had his two weeks off of work recently, and since most of that would be spent with me going on my vacation, which I will try to write about soon, we decided we should at least spend a day of his vacation doing something fun as a family. I had gone with Sammy to Cape Kiwanda on a field trip last year and thought that would be a fun place to go as a family, so that’s what we did on June 22. Even Tony got to come along.
The weather was beautiful. It was a really a perfect day. Cape Kiwanda has a couple of really fun things about it. One is the interesting and beautiful tide pools.
The other is the massive sand dune!
We all made it to the top of the sand dune, which is quite a climb! Even Scott climbed it, although at first had no interest in trying. One of the hard things about climbing it, besides how steep it is, is that it is made of sand! Every step you take your feet sink into the sand, which makes it even harder to climb. It is definitely worth it, though, because of the sense of accomplishment and most of all because of the amazing views you are rewarded with at the top.
Yep, being at the top felt pretty great.
In fact, Josh and Sammy spent hours up there. My favorite spot though was hanging out at the bottom. I found a nice log to lean on with the sun shining on me, a good book, the feel and smell of the sea breeze, and the sound of the waves. It was heaven! And then to have this cute little guy playing and smiling beside me, well it doesn’t get much better than that.
Scott enjoyed taking Tony on walks on the beach and he even took a dip in the ocean, which he was very excited about since it was his first time getting totally immersed in the ocean in Oregon. It was cold and he didn’t last long, but he accomplished his goal!
And Gabe just enjoyed walking around and exploring.
It was a fun, relaxing, and beautiful day. A perfect kick off to the summer!

What a fun day and great pictures to go with it. I can picture me sitting by a log reading a book and enjoying the sounds of the ocean and the sea breeze, heaven.
