Happy Birthday Kristie!
Kristie is my dear friend and roommate from my college days at BYU. Although I consider all my old roommates good friends and love them dearly, Kristie is the one I talk to the most. She was the roommate that I actually shared my room with during my sophomore year and we were very close. She was there for my whole courtship and engagement with Scott and was a great listener and help during that fun time. She was also there for my awesome Phantom of the Opera date. I remember lots of fun times riding around in her cute little car talking about millions of different things. Kristie is just so much fun to be with and talk to. In fact, when we do talk on the phone it seems like it’s hard to keep our conversations under an hour!
I’ve always been somewhat of a night owl, but Kristie is even more so than me! I remember one night when Scott was out of town and I made the not-so-bright decision to watch a really scary movie on TV. It was over pretty late, I’m guessing about 11:00, and I was feeling freaked out and just wanted to talk to someone to get my mind off of the movie. Even though Kristie was a couple time zones later than me I figured she’d be up. I called her and lo and behold, she was awake! I felt much better after our conversation. She is such a great friend with a warm and loving heart, always wanting to make others happy. I admire her many talents. I hope this is an awesome birthday!
Thinking about times with Kristie naturally brings up the awesome times we have shared as a group of roommates and friends, both when we were in school and then our fun reunions since. I thought this would be a good time to bring out some of those pictures and remember some of the fun times we had. One of the great things we did was to have some fabulous group dates for dances and Halloween. We had a blast getting ready for those events, almost as much fun as we had actually doing them. Here are a couple of pictures I found from a fun Halloween party we had our freshman year at Ruth’s house. Ruth was a great force behind these events happening. She is an awesome planner and ever so talented. She made many of our costumes, including my Cinderella dress. What a blast we had!
The next year we all went dressed in the style of different decades.
Unfortunately, I can’t find a picture of the group of us. (If any friends reading this have one, send it my way!) This is me and Scott, though, dressed in the style of the turn of the century (last century), again with props to Ruth for much help in the costuming. There were many other fun parties and dates and just fun times spent together doing crazy things or talking until all hours. So many good times! I really love those girls. In the Halloween picture above I remember most of the boys names, but not all, but the girls were, from the top row, Michelle as Alice in Wonderland, Wendy (our R.A. in the dorms) as Maid Marian from Robin Hood, Kristie as Snow White, Kristi as Wendy from Peter Pan, me as Cinderella, Margaret as Mary Poppins, Ruth as Minnie Mouse (with Kristie’s now husband Chris as Mickey), and Jessica as Piglet.
The fun didn’t end when we went our separate ways though! We’ve had some fun reunions since college, including memorable trips to Chicago and New York. I took lots of pictures and promised to send them to everyone, but here I am quite some time later and I never followed through on that. My pictures are pretty disorganized unfortunately, but I’m getting a little better and recently I found a bunch of pictures from those two trips, but unfortunately not all. Here are a few of my favorites. If you click on one it’ll take you to my Flickr page where you can download them, see them in larger sizes, and see the rest that I didn’t post on here.
Chicago 2001
We had such a great time in Chicago! We ate out at fun places,
visited a cool artsy place (where the picture of Ruth, Michelle, and Margaret was taken). I can’t remember what that place was though. Anyone? We went to the botanical gardens where Michelle was working at the time and she showed us around. We got to visit with Jessica, who had moved after our freshman year and was living in the area. We met Michelle’s then boyfriend Hatten and he went to lunch with us and to the botanical gardens. We saw some of the downtown area and did some shopping. In general, we had a blast doing fun things and being together!
New York 2004
I only managed to be with my friends in New York for about 24 hours, but we sure packed a lot into those 24 hours! We ate at some fun places, a jazz place for one if I remember right. We saw Times Square and took a ferry to Staten Island. Michelle was about to get married and on the ferry she, Margaret, and Ruth gave a dramatic rendition of how Michelle and Carl met, which was very entertaining. We also saw a Broadway play, Thoroughly Modern Millie, which was lots of fun. But again, the best part was just being together and catching up on each other’s lives and talking, talking, talking.
Unfortunately, Kristi H. was not able to make it on either of these trips and the one she did go on, to Nevada, I wasn’t able to go on. I haven’t seen her for ages, but hopefully we can get together again sometime soon! She shared a room with me my first year in the dorms.
Did you make it to the end? I think this is my longest post ever. It’s been fun reliving the memories and I look forward to more get togethers! (We did get to see each other briefly this summer, though.) And once again, because it can’t be said enough, happy birthday Kristie!

What a blessing to have such good friends. There is nothing in life more important than family and friends!!
Thanks for the birthday wishes!! The photos bring back some great memories. I couldn’t ask for better friends!
Happy Birthday Kristie! Sure looks like a lot of fun to me. I am seriously amazed at those awesome costumes! WOW!
Yeah, I’m a year late, but Happy Birthday Kristie! We need another reunion – your house this time?
I’m all for it! Name the date!
